Read on Sonoma is a collective effort of passionate professionals, educators, and volunteers who have joined forces to address literacy issues within Sonoma’s elementary schools. The organization recognizes that reading is fundamental to personal and academic growth and has adopted the Accelerated Reader Program developed by Renaissance Learning to facilitate this process.
The program encourages students to choose books or articles that align with their interests while setting individualized reading goals and tracking their progress. Students accumulate points toward their goals by reading at their appropriate levels and taking short quizzes to assess comprehension. At the end of each trimester, incentives and celebrations await those students who meet or exceed their reading goals. Additionally, the students take the STAR Reading diagnostic benchmark three times a year to monitor overall progress.
